Long biography
Ferguson Young is a Hamilton-based band rooted in East Coast, Celtic and folk music. Founded in 2011 by fiddler and multi-instrumentalist Liam McGlashon, the group brings together lively fiddle tunes, traditional songs and familiar favourites, with a sound shaped by years of performing together.
McGlashon is joined by James Ferris on vocals and Owen Mahoney on bass and vocals. His early years learning fiddle on Prince Edward Island helped establish the band’s musical foundation, while each member brings their own influences and experience to the repertoire. Alongside fiddle, McGlashon’s work on guitar, mandolin, banjo, tin whistle and bagpipes gives the group a broad instrumental range.
Named after the intersection of Ferguson Avenue and Young Street near Hamilton’s historic Corktown pub, Ferguson Young maintains a strong connection to the city’s live music community. Their performances balance energetic instrumentals with songs audiences know by heart, held together by humour, easy interaction and the informal atmosphere of an East Coast kitchen party.
